Match the look of two clips. If two clips have been taken under different lighting or with different. After the iMovie finished importing the files and started generating thumbnails, I force quit the program. The imported MOV files were left in the iMovie Events folder. I moved the files out of that folder and trashed it, then restarted iMovie and all's well.
Many have posted about the projects thumbnail selection issue, but no real solutions that have worked reliably for everyone.
It seems that iMovie chooses a photo or frame from a vid clip at or near the midpoint of the movie to set the thumbnail. So if you can scroll to that frame and substitute another one, or change its position, or add some black background clips to the end of your movie to move the midpoint, or some transitions, you might be able to get a new thumbnail display on the project icon. Awkward, I know.
